The Village Designer

So who is Pak Singgih which means Mr Singgih in Indonesian.
It’s Indonesian product designer Singgih S Kartono who loves the village life.

After graduating from Product Design study in Bandung, Pak Singgih asked himself the same big questions that most of us ask ourselves: “Where should I go? What should I do?” His decision to return to the village was spurred by the simple thought of passing on the knowledge he has acquired to where it is most needed.

It was this simple thought that inspired him and his wife to establish Magno Design - a design company whose thinking revolves around the village community of Kandangan. The company aspires to encourage young people to work in the village, giving them the opportunity to earn a good living to sustain themselves and their families.

Magno Design is more than design and production; it’s also about the value of social responsibility for people and the environment. The compound of their office includes:

  • A school that teaches the villagers useful skills

  • A tree nursery where they grow and replant trees that they have used for the products

Each product is lovingly handcrafted | Photo Credit: Magno Design

Simply by looking at the beautiful detailing of a Magno Design product, we can easily sense the respect that goes into every aspect of its creation: the detailed handicraft work, the use of sustainable materials, the honest intentions of the company and the purpose of the product’s use. We hope that you see it too!

Kudos Magno Design for your amazing work!
